i <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 2694 <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS MOVING THE DATE <br /> OF THE CITY'S GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION FROM THE FIRST <br /> TUESDAY AFTER THE FIRST MONDAY IN NOVEMBER OF ODD- <br /> NUMBERED YEARS TO THE FIRST TUESDAY AFTER THE FIRST <br /> MONDAY IN NOVEMBER OF EVEN-NUMBERED YEARS <br /> COMMENCING WITH THE YEAR 2010 <br /> WHEREAS,the City's General Municipal Election in now scheduled for the first Tuesday <br /> after the first Monday in November of odd-numbered years; and <br /> WHEREAS, Election Code sections 1301 and 10403.5 authorize the City Council of the <br /> City of Redlands to reschedule its General Municipal Election; and <br /> WHEREAS, the intent of this ordinance is to reduce the costs of conducting general <br /> municipal elections in the City by permitting the consolidation of the general municipal election with <br /> another election already to be held on the same date and to be conducted by the San Bernardino <br /> County Registrar of Voters; and <br /> WHEREAS, in addition, it is anticipated that there will be an increase in voter <br /> participation in the general municipal election because of this combination of elections,and it is also <br /> anticipated that voter convenience will be served; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES <br /> ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> SECTION 1.Pursuant to Sections 1301 and 10403.5 of the California Elections Code,the <br /> date of the General Municipal Election of the City of Redlands, California is proved from the first <br /> Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each odd-numbered year to the first Tuesday after the <br /> first Monday in November of each even-numbered year commencing with the year 2010. <br /> SECTION 2. In accordance with the change of election date,the terms of office of those <br /> members of the City Council,the City Clerk and City Treasurer presently serving shall be extended <br /> by a period of approximately eleven (11) months when election results are declared by the City <br /> Council. <br /> SECTION 3.Within thirty(30)days of this ordinance becoming operative,the City Clerk <br /> shall cause a notice to be mailed to all registered voters of the City informing them of the change in <br /> the election date. The notice shall also inform the voters that as a result in the change in the election <br /> date, the terms of office of the elected City office holders will be changed. <br /> SECTION 4. The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors is hereby requested to <br /> approve this Ordinance permitting the City of Redlands general municipal election to be held on the <br /> same day as the election. <br />
