Legislative Version <br /> Specific Plan 45 (Amendment No 20) <br /> Chapter VI, Section B <br /> 8 Signage <br /> a General Design Criteria <br /> The provisions of the City of Redlands Sign Code shall be followed in the Specific Plan <br /> area Where a conflict between the Sign Code and these Design Guidelines may occur, <br /> the more restrictive provision shall apply unless specific language in the Design <br /> Guidelines permits a sign type that is otherwise prohibited by the Sign Code <br /> • All signs should be a minimum size and height to adequately identify a business <br /> • Signage design should be carefully integrated with site and building design to <br /> create a unified appearance for the total property <br /> • Signs should be carefully located for safety so as not to block driveway views of <br /> oncoming traffic <br /> • Illumination projected onto the sign face is encouraged In the event a sign is <br /> illuminated, the light source shall be fully shielded from view Internally illuminated <br /> plastic signs are prohibited in the TC-H, Town Center-Historic District except for <br /> signs for a movie theater, which may be internally lighted <br /> Typefaces should be chosen fortheir simplicity and clarity Signs on older buildings <br /> are encouraged to use a typeface from the period the building was built <br /> Sign posts and other structural elements should be made of wood or metal with a <br /> white, earth-tone, black, or natural stain finish Reflective or bright colors should <br /> be avoided <br /> ® A master signage program shall be designed for new projects containing three or <br /> more business establishments <br /> In the case of existing signs or pre-existing signs that can be verified by <br /> photographic record and are at least 60 years old, the sign may be restored or <br /> recreated in its original form Signs qualifying under this provision are exempt from <br /> the provisions of this guideline but remain subject to Planning Commission <br /> discretionary review <br /> ® Existing Sign Programs approved prior to June 21, 1994 and any future <br /> modifications to sign programs shall be exempt from the sign requirements of <br /> Specific Plan No 45 (Revised) " <br /> 1 <br />
