<br /> offered in a former petition presented to this Board for said improvements, together
<br /> with the increased amount to be given by Mr. Moore, made a total in cash and labor
<br /> of $498 . towards said improvements. The petitioners simply askingthat the Board
<br /> furnish the city teams and graders towards doing such work, and it being agreed by
<br /> • Mr. Bethell, one of the petitioners that he would at once proceed to collect all
<br /> the cash subscriptions and deposit the same with the Street Superintendent, it was
<br /> on motion ordered that this petition be granted, providing said money be first so
<br /> deposited.
<br /> Mr_. SYlvester, ,in front of whose property a cement sidewalk had been ordered ,
<br /> on the south side of Olive Avenue near its intersection with East Citrus Avenue ,
<br /> appeared before the Board and asked for an ,extension of time , and on motion he was
<br /> granted thirty days from date hereof, in which to commence said work, instead of
<br /> ten days as noted in his previous order.
<br /> This being the time agreed upon at the last meeting for action to be taken in
<br /> the matter of opening a pew street, extending westerly from Parkwood Road to Center
<br /> Street, 41r. Stewarts objection was further discussed with Mr. Ely, his Attorney,
<br /> 4Il and on motion, was laid over until the next regular meeting.
<br /> This being the time for opening kids for the construction of asphalt pavement
<br /> on West citrus and West State Street ( the work ordered done on East Citrus Avenue
<br /> between Fifth and Sixth Streets being now done under private contract ) the follow-
<br /> ing bid was received: The Barber Asphalt Paving Company agreeing to do the work
<br /> specified in Subdivision a, b, and c, of paragraph first, according to the notice
<br /> published calling for bids for such work as follows: Subdivision ( a ) 17-7/9 cents
<br /> per square foot . Subdivision (b ) $259 . Subdivision (c ) 12-2/9 cents per square
<br /> foot . For the work specified in Subdivision a, and b, of paragraph second, accord-
<br /> ing to said notice calling for bids as follows: Subdivision (a ) 16-2/3 cents per
<br /> square foot . Subdivision (b ) 11-1/3 cents per square foot . Whereupon, the follow-
<br /> ing resolution was passed by the unanimous vote of the Board Resolution of Award
<br /> •, of Contract #224, which stated that the Board of Trustees in open session had open-
<br /> ed, examined, and publicly declared all sealed proposale or bids offered for the
<br /> foregoing described street work, and. stating among other things that the Board re-
<br /> jected all of the other bids, except that of the said The Barber Asphalt Paving
<br /> Company, at the prices specified above for doing the several pieces of work as
<br /> called for and specified in said notice for bids, and directing the City Clerk to
<br /> post the notice of this award, and publish the same in the Redlands Daily Review.
<br /> The following Resolution was passed' Resolution Approving Award of Contract, 110
<br /> 224. Resolved, that the award of contract to. The Barber Asphalt Paving Company,
<br /> heretofore, made by this Board, for the paving of West, Citrus Avenue , and. construct-
<br /> ing a culvert and cobble stone gutter thereon; and the paving of West State Street,
<br /> and. constructing cobble stone gutters, thereon, all as proposed in Resolution of In-
<br /> • tention, No . 224, be and the same is approved.
<br /> The matter of curb and gutter previously ordered in on west side of Sixth
<br /> Street, between State Street and Central Avenue , was taken up and the Street Super-
<br /> intendent reported that the portion betweem East State Street and the alley way had
<br /> not been put in and should be put in at once, whereupon, the Clerk was instructed
<br /> to notify the owners of said property that if such improvement was not put in with-
