9 <br /> • <br /> Bruggetpeyer spoke of the large expenditure of money by the Government maintaining an <br /> empipent agency which people did not seem to know about. Councilman Clapp stated a <br /> ° new man had been placed in charge of the Government employment service and the office <br /> moved to 12 Cajon Street. It seemed to be the general opinion that Packing houses should <br /> be a clearing house for the growers. <br /> m CHLOLZNE- <br /> cq <br /> Mayor Bruggemeyer sought action of the Council regarding the signing <br /> `.c of_ a contract for the purchase of chlorine for' the Water Department. Councilman Clapp <br /> informed him it was merely to protect them on their purchase price through a local <br /> merchant. Councilman Spoor questioned the purchase without asking for bids and Mr. Hinck- <br /> • ley explained that other companies bid only on car load lots and they were not equipped <br /> to takF care of it. Upon motion of Councilman Maccubbin, seconded by Councilman Clapp, <br /> duly adopted, the Mayor was authorized and directed to sign a contract with the McKesson- <br /> II (Western Wholesale fopne year, Councilman Spoor not voting. <br /> COMbIU TTON.S <br /> The following communications were presented and ordered filed: <br /> From the City of Upland regarding the Citrus Belt League meeting to <br /> he held in that City on January 22, 1937. The Clerk was directed to make reservations <br /> for nine; <br /> From John M. Stocker expressing appreciation for sympathy extended' <br /> owing to the death of Mrs. Stocker; <br /> From R. A. Covington relative to a substantial saving to the City_ over <br /> a period of three years on Public Liability Insurance on the Water and Cemetery Departments <br /> and the property at the Northwest corner of Orange Street and Colton Avenue. The AttornllL <br /> was directed to investigate the need of such insurance at the Northwest corner of Colton <br /> I <br /> and Orange when leased and report to this board. The matter of having all public liabil- • <br /> ity insurance expire at a certain date was discussed but no action taken. <br /> SLGNS <br /> Application of Carpenter & Collins for permission to hang a sign at <br /> • 116 West Citrus Avenue was presented, same having been approved by the Building Inspector• . <br /> 1 <br /> Upon motion of Councilman Clapp, seconded by Councilman Maccubbin, unanimously adopted, <br /> the application was granted under supervision of the Building Inspector. <br /> DeLuxe Outdoor Advertising Company sought permission of the Council <br /> to 'erect a sign at 525 Orange Street on the Emil Suess property, same to be placed <br /> against the side of the building, permission having been granted by the owner of the <br /> property. Upon motion of Councilman Spoor, seconded by Councilman Clapp, that the permit <br /> be. denied resulted as follows: <br /> Ayes; Councilmen Clapp and Spoor <br /> Noes: Councilmen Cranston and Maccubbin <br /> Whereupon the Mayor declared the motion lost. The Mayor expressed the opinion that <br /> Council action was not needed in such cases and after durther discussion, upon motion of <br /> ICounci}man Cranston, saconded by Councilman Maccubbin, that permit be milted under super- <br /> 0 vision of the building Inspector, resulted as follows: <br />
