PARK COMMISSION RECOMMENDATIONS (Continued) <br />Prospect the care of Prospect Park Grove was approved unanimously; <br />Park "in case of deficit on the grove, then the City of <br />Grove Redlands has the option to pay it at the end of that <br />season or defer the payment in the next three years <br />HOUSING COMMISSION RECOMMENDATIONS <br />Resolution No. 2947, a resolution of the City Council, <br />City of Redlands, establishing procedures for considera- <br />Leased tion of Section 23, Leased Housing, was unanimously <br />Housing adopted on motion of Councilman Miller, seconded by <br />Councilman Knudsen. <br />RECREATION COMMISSION RE VEST <br />City Manager Merritt presented a request from the Recrea- <br />tion Commission for permission to use the Redlands Bowl <br />for a summer folk music series for young people to be <br />held July 8, 15, 29, August 12, and 26, and further re- <br />quested that a o50' ticket donation be permitted to help <br />defray costs. <br />Mayor Cummings announced receipt of a letter from Mrs. <br />Ruth Smiley Drake, daughter of the donors of the pro- <br />perty, expressing disapproval of charging for the pro- <br />gram which she states "is in defiance of the deed to <br />Summer the property on which the Bowl is situated Mayor <br />Folk Music Cummings explained that he had discussed this with Mrs. <br />Series Drake and been unable to dissuade her from the conviction <br />that this was not the intent of the donation of the pro- <br />perty originally. <br />In the discussion that followed, Councilman DeMirayn <br />suggested the use of Jennie Davis Park which has a <br />natural bowl. The Greek Theater was suggested, the <br />stadium, and the Clock Auditorium. <br />It was stressed that for this type of music a good stage <br />and good sound system were required. <br />Mr, Manases Soto addressed Council requesting support of <br />this proposal as recreation for youth is much needed in <br />Redlands. <br />Following lengthy discussion, it was unanimously approved <br />to have a committee including Councilmen Knudsen and <br />Miller appeal to Mrs. Drake and lacking receipt of her <br />approval of the matter as described, the Council will <br />call an emergency session, on motion of Councilman Sewall <br />and Councilman Miller. <br />Page four - <br />May 2, 1972 <br />
