RESOLUTION NO. 2875
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS URGING
THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO REMAIN A MEMBER OF
THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF GOVERNMENTS
WHEREAS, the Southern California Association of Governments
(SLAG) was formed in 1965 to preserve home rule and act as a barrier
to a threatening encroachment by state and federal agencies into
local government, and it has struggled with such massive problems
as air pollution, airports, transportation, water and recreation;
and
WHEREAS, these are problems that cut across city and county
lines, even state and national boundaries, and experience has shown
that individual cities and counties cannot cope with them alone;
and
WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has voted
to drop out of the Southern California Association of Governments
(SCAG), thus voting to withdraw the county's substantial financial
support; and
WHEREAS, the need remains for a semiofficial agency, such as
SCAG, to serve that purpose,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Redlands wishes to go on record as urging the Los Angeles
County Board of Supervisors to reconsider its position in order to
remain as a most important member of the Southern California Asso-
ciation of Governments.
ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED this l6th day of March, 1971
ATTEST-
